SASSA Means Test is one of the most important eligibility factors of SRD R350 beneficiaries of South Africa. SASSA provides financial assistance to about 18 million South African citizens monthly. SASSA Means Test is not easy to pass from April 1,2024 as Department of Social Development and Department of Home Affairs has passed strict clauses in 2024 to pass when you are applying for SASSA SRD 350 Grant in South Africa.

Old age pensioners (old persons grant), War Veterans and beneficiaries of Disability Grant have slightly different criteria. Their Relief grant amount depends upon their monthly income. More monthly income results into smaller SASSA Grant amount for them

What is considered an “Asset” in terms of the SASSA means test?
Your assets will decide if you qualify as a recipient of SASSA Grants after you apply for SASSA online or your SASSA application would be canceled or declined. Everything you own is not included in ‘ASSET’ in SASSA documentations formulated by Department of Social Development, only following things refers to “Assets in Means test”
- All the properties you or your spouse own ( it does not include the property you live in or any property that has outstanding bond has a value 0)
- Cash deposits in your account ( you and your spouse)
- Investments either in stock exchange, shares, saving funds, trust funds (you and your spouse )
- Retirement Funds: If you are a retired person, your annuity would be included in your assets and hence would be a part of SASSA Means Test while accounting
- Near Retirement: If you are near your retirement or retired but did not receive your annuity yet, it will NOT be included in ASSETS for SASSA Means Test. Stay easy!
